Lectures

I also offer, from time to time, classes that are outdoor related, but do not have a skills component.  These will vary in topic from year to year.  The lengths and target audiences will vary based on topic.

Ticks and Tick-Borne Diseases in PA - .Do you spend time outdoors? Have pets? Live in a rural setting?  Learn about Pennsylvania ticks, the diseases they carry, and how to prevent getting a tick-borne disease (TBD). Current testing methods and controversy regarding the various schools of thought surrounding Lyme disease will be discussed. This workshop is appropriate for ages 12 to adult.  Approximately 2 hours.

Basic Chainsaw Safety for Homeowners - Do you own a chainsaw for use at your primary residence or perhaps at your weekend home?  Have you always been a little uncertain about how to use it properly?  You're not alone.  Many of us have learned to use our chainsaws "on the job" so to speak.  But not many of us ever learned to use our saws safely and efficiently.  This class is geared to teach just that.  The class is based off of US Forest Service and industry guidelines and will include topics such as basic saw operation, safety equipment, chain sharpening, reciprocal saw forces, tree hazards, as well as controlling severe bleeding.  This workshop is appropriate for ages 14 to adult.  Approximately 2 to 2.5 hours.
